The course is clearly broken down in step-by-step files that take you through the full track production process in a clear, concise and easy-going informal style. Each part of the course is downloadable as individual zip files, containing all the video and text files required for each section.
BOTH Mac & PC COMPATIBLE.
Please see the comprehensive list below for details of each section that the course covers:
Section 1 – Drums
Create intoxicating, beautifully equalised drum patterns that give your track a unique identity of its own. Using the kick, crash, reverse cymbals, open/closed hi hats and more, you’ll learn how to employ dynamics (gates and compression, for example) and drum loops to create a real sense of space and ambience.
Section 2 – Bass
In this video, you’ll learn how to take your bass from full-on to full-throttle courtesy of the classic bass tool VB-1. Creating the track from scratch, we’ll learn how to tune the bass to your kick drum, using different effects and processors including gates, compression and Quadrafuzz. Discover the art of bass EQ and learn how to tune it perfectly to your kit.
Section 3 – Intro
Here come the endorphins. Building on the energy you’ve already created from videos one and two, we move on to add a subtle crescendo of anticipation to your track using the Evolve VST instrument* – layering different sounds to create incredible atmosphere, whilst avoiding any harsh clashes between frequencies.
*Evolve is supplied with the course, as WAV files.
Section 4 – Audio Effects & Stabs
With your track beginning to take shape, it’s time to bring out the toys. Learn how best to bring in stabs, noise sweeps, crashes, reverse cymbals and other effects, using reverb and delay to gel each sound to the rest of the track – not forgetting some more EQ expertise to keep everything harmonious.
Section 5 – Vocals
Here you’ll learn how to drop in two vocals – one from a well-known movie, one created exclusively for Cubase Guru – to create fast-slow transitions and add cohesion to the track. You’ll also learn how to bring your track to life by applying delay, panning, reverb and flangers to give vocals heightened resonance and depth.
Section 6 – Synths
Time to max up the VST instruments. If you’re fortunate enough to have Access Virus T1 hardware, now’s your chance to use it. And if not – no problem. Cubase Guru have recreated the lead sounds as closely as possible using VST instruments Z3TA+, Albino and Predator – complete with the presets you need to emulate each effect.
Section 7 – Arrangement
At over three hours long, we’ve sub-divided this essential section into four separate videos to cut down on the intensity (and the file size!). Videos one to three guide you as you arrange each track into one seamless, cohesive whole, while video four teaches you how to automate pan, volume, delays, reverb and much more.
Section 8 – Final Mix
As any professional music producer knows, the devil’s in the detail – or in our case, the final mix. Here we iron out any inconsistencies or harshness by checking and fine-tuning EQ, automation, volume, delays and reverb on each track. This gives you the chance to do any necessary processing before the mastering stage.
Section 9 – Mastering
You haven’t mastered psytrance music production until you’ve mastered mastering. Designed to help you give your work that all-important polish and edge, the mastering video teaches you how to bounce your track to a stereo audio file, ready to share with the world! You’ll use master EQ, precision EQ and creative limiting; using a spectrum analyser and multi-band compression to ensure your track is totally balanced, clear and LOUD – without compromising the dynamic range of your track.
We use UAD plug-ins for the mastering process – but again, if you don’t have the hardware, we’ve provided the necessary links to alternative software and free demos which you can use instead.
